Message 4: Jesus is the Good Shepherd
The Lord is our shepherd (Psalm 23:1). He is the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls (1 Peter 2:25). We really need a Shepherd to guide our soul, which is being led astray by our own inward darkness and the sinful world around us. Our Shepherd knows each of us by name and calls us (John 10:4). He lays down His life for us (John 10:11). We follow Him because we know His voice (John 10:4). He leads us to the flock, the church, so there will be one flock and one Shepherd (John 10:16). In the church we can find pasture under the gentle shepherding of our Good Shepherd.
1 Peter 2:25 - "For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls."John 10:16 - "I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd."
